This client wanted to have the feel of a new kitchen with more personality and warmth, however, also wanted to use as little new material as possible.

The apartment is situated in Copenhagen K, in a historic building. The original colours of the stairwells all had shades of cool grey, so we chose this as a reference to the building. We used a natural paint free from toxic chemicals and microplastics. For a touch of warmth we added handles made from smoked oak and refurbished the original exotic hardwood tabletop.

We added soft-close and new hinges where needed, as well as improved storage with drawers under the sink and in some of the cupboards. We also fixed minor things such as the kickboards and added a new rail for hanging towels or pans.

The total cost of the project was very low compared to a new kitchen, especially as the client lives on the top floor with no elevator access. By leaving the kitchen in place and only refurbishing selected elements, the logistical burden was minimized.
